Job Description

Western Forest Products is hiring a Strategic Sourcing Lead to join our Procurement team.

The Strategic Sourcing Lead reports to the Director, Procurement and will be responsible for developing best practice strategic sourcing activities for continuous supply and best value procurement (cost of ownership, quality, and service). The Strategic Sourcing Lead engages often with stakeholders to understand business requirements, identify current and potential sources of supply, request RF(x) and evaluate RF(x) submissions against objectives for final award. The Strategic Sourcing Lead maintains ongoing contract maintenance through the life of the contract(s).

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in a sourcing role, initiative as a self-starter, a passion for implementing best in class sourcing practices, and an analytical/results focused approach to problem solving and identifying value-add creation opportunities. Experience in establishing business process discipline, challenging the status quo and change management are important.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Sourcing Strategies
    • Define the sourcing strategy and following through with best practice RF(x) execution and implementation
    • Lead the full sourcing process from requirement gathering to evaluation, vendor selection, negotiation, contract management and pipeline management
    • Utilize industry knowledge, market intelligence, spend analytics and business insights to provide sourcing recommendations
    • Serve as strategic partner with business teams to support Corporate Procurement strategy to impact business outcomes
    • Analyze price updates and develop alternate supplier options for consideration
    • Identify opportunities for vendor consolidation, and to leverage the organization’s purchasing power
    • Understand the business requirements including materials, equipment, processes, technical specifications, and value chain
    • Proactively evaluate and develop the supply base including the introduction of new potential sources of supply as appropriate to meet the current and future needs of the business.
  • Vendor Relations
    • On an ongoing basis, monitor, track, evaluate, and work to improve the performance (e.g. quality, delivery, service levels) of assigned suppliers
    • Facilitate supplier issue resolution and acting as a liaison between corporate and divisional personnel
  • Project Management
    • Execute strategic and tactical sourcing projects as defined by established project charters or as required by specific business unit requirements
    • Contribute to enterprise wide initiatives and special projects, providing sourcing and procurement subject matter expertise to streamlining and simplifying business processes
  • Perform other projects or duties as assigned by the Director, Procurement

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • 7+ years progressive experience in a strategic sourcing role
  • Professional Purchasing, Supply Chain, or Contract Management designation
  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration or Supply Chain Management

Skills, knowledge and Required Competencies:

  • Proven track record of adding value to companies and providing strong contributions to a Procurement team.
  • Proven ability to take necessary actions to rectify problems and improve situations
  • Proven experience in Strategic Sourcing who excels in an evolving environment, handles pressure well and is self-motivated to accomplish assigned tasks timely and efficiently
  • Sound understanding of contract management, RFP purchasing practices, general business financials, and negotiation strategies
  • Ensure business is conducted in a professional and ethical manner, ensuring auditable documentation is maintained in accordance with best practices and the Western Forest Products Code of Conduct
  • Proven advanced user level capability with all Microsoft Office Software, specifically Excel & PowerPoint
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills – inclusive of presentation skills and ability to build relationships with employees, leadership and external business associates at any level
  • Work collaboratively with internal groups (i.e. Operations, Finance, Legal, etc.) to ensure efficiency for the business and suppliers
  • Organize and communicate complex information clearly to any level of the organization
  • Effectively and independently manages a high volume of requests and prioritizes according to business needs and deadlines
  • ERP experience required, Oracle, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics experience preferred
  • Ability to work with and support both internal and external stakeholders in a positive customer service way

Required Knowledge:

  • Strong business acumen;
  • Working knowledge of Supplier Management/Value Chain best practices/techniques;

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Computer literate with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills;
  • Excellent communication skills-influencing, presentation, negotiating
  • Good planning, time management, and organizational skills;
