Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Manager, Internal Controls, the Risk & Controls Analyst is responsible for the execution of the Internal Controls Compliance Program to support compliance with NI 52-109 (aka “C-SOX”). This includes designing and performing tests over Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (“ICFR”) and Disclosure Controls & Procedures (“DC&P”) as well as assessing the impact of any deficiencies and required remediation work. In addition, responsible for assisting in the planning and execution of internal control projects with an aim to assist management with identifying and managing risks related to the achievement of corporate objectives.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Testing of the company’s systems of internal control to support compliance with NI 52-109
  • Preparation and maintenance of the internal controls documentation to ensure conclusions of testing are adequately supported
  • Evaluation, in consultation with supervisor, of any identified control deficiencies for their impact on the overall control environment
  • Assisting with identifying best practices and implementing resulting standardized processes across the company
  • Monitoring of company compliance with key controls around disbursements
  • Training and educating employees companywide on the importance of standard processes and controls compliance
  • Liaise with external auditors to support the completion of their independent audits, as needed
  • Assist in systems and financial projects as required
  • Assist in the planning and execution of internal control review projects
  • Perform ad-hoc investigations into risk and control issues as directed by the Manager, Internal Controls
  • Stays abreast of changes in regulations to ensure timely compliance
  • Other duties as assigned.
 

Job Requirements

Required Knowledge:

  • Experience in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating internal controls and related processes,
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including IFRS,
  • Knowledge of General IT Computer Controls would be considered an asset,

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills, and experience with Microsoft Visio,
  • Experience with Microsoft AX would be considered an asset,
  • Ability to work independently,
  • Strong decision-making and communication skills. Ability to communicate clear and concise information in an accurate and persuasive manner,
  • Strong customer service orientation,
  • Public company internal or external audit experience is preferred,
  • High level of integrity and accountability.

Required Education and Professional Designation/Certification:

  • Post-secondary degree in Commerce, Business Administration or related degree
  • Professional accounting designation or working towards designation (CPA)
  • CIA or CISA designation would be considered an asset.

Required Experience:

  • 3 years of experience in internal or external audit, preferably with a focus on the evaluation of internal controls.
