Job Description

Western Forest Products is looking for a Manager, Total Rewards & Policy to join our team at our Corporate Office in Vancouver, B.C. 

The Manager, Total Rewards & Policy is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, delivery and administration of all Total Rewards programs and associated policies. Western’s Total Rewards programs include compensation design, organizational design, job evaluation and classification, pension and benefits with the overall objective for Western to be an Employer of Choice and promote the ongoing attraction, recruitment and retention of a talented workforce.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Total Rewards

  • Provides leadership with strategic total rewards program development that will enable the attraction, development and retention of talent and aligns with the organizations values and strategic objectives.
  • Monitors salary structures, balances staffing needs with cost controls and helps ensure that policies, procedures and programs are in alignment with the organizations overall strategic objectives and HR vision.
  • Oversees Total Reward market matching/benchmarking process; monitors industry trends and best practices.
  • Educates, mentors and trains HR Staff on processes and professional practices within the area of compensation and benefits and policy interpretation and application.
  • Partners with leadership and HR Business Partners to ensure successful adoption of new compensation and benefits processes, and is accountable for communication and training as needed.

Compensation

  • Leads annual compensation process including merit increases, performance bonuses and sales compensation.
  • Leads compensation and benefits benchmarking through survey participation (submission and analysis); analyze surveys to ensure appropriate compensation across all departments.
  • Ensures exceptional performance and top talent is rewarded with appropriate incentive programs, including financial and non-financial rewards.
  • Provides advice to leaders and HR staff on pay decisions (new employee and promotions), policy and guideline interpretation and job evaluation including the design of creative solutions to specific compensation-related programs.
  • Performs regular Compensation and Benefit data audits to ensure data accuracy.

Pension and Benefits

  • Ensures a competitive benefits program that is valued and meaningful to employees.
  • Liaises with external plan providers regarding benefit plans and pension plans.
  • Manages the annual benefits renewal process.

Policy

  • Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
  • Develops and implements fit for purpose Human Resource policies and processes, coaching HR Business Partners, Managers and staff on their application.
  • Manages policy exception requests.

HRIS & Reporting

  • Leads the configuration and implementation of the HRIS Compensation, Benefits and Performance Management Modules and the ongoing utilization of the tool.
  • Owns the HRIS system, including reporting and analytics.
  • Supports the annual manpower planning process.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Post Secondary degree in Human Resources, Finance or a related field
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation achieved or in progress preferred
  • 10 + years’ progressive experience in total rewards/compensation field
  • Advanced Excel skills

Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies

  • Deep understanding of best practices in compensation and benefits, with proven success in developing reward strategies that attract and retain top talent;
  • Exceptional analytical and numeracy skills; ability to consolidate information from various sources;
  • Knowledge and experience with benchmarking and market pricing jobs, including the completion of salary surveys.
  • Tact, diplomacy and discretion in handling information of a confidential and/or sensitive nature.
  • Exceptional customer service focus with results focused attitude.
  • Self-directed, result oriented nature with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with strict deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment, adopt new ideas and drive change.
  • Travel will be required at approximately 20-30%.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment or the resources industry is preferred.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is preferred.
