Western Forest Products is seeking an Area Planner for our Port Alberni Forest Operation located in Port Alberni, B.C.

The Area Planner is an integral part of the operations’ team.  Here you will be part of a dedicated group that works closely together to successfully achieve our annual targets and goals.  This rewarding position provides the self-motivated individual with the flexibility to be strategic, innovative, and creative in delivering results.  Success in this leadership role brings the satisfaction that comes when working with others to integrate harvest plan preparation with the resulting harvest and road building activities.  

Job Requirements

Reporting to the Operations Planner, this highly motivated and positive individual works closely with the Contract Supervisor, to deliver and support the following key functions and responsibilities:

  • A safety culture where we care for each other.
  • Manage, supervise, and assist with the operational layout program.
  • Ensure consistency of the planning process with higher level requirements, government legislation, and CSA certification plans.
  • Prepare site plans and road permit applications.
  • Provide cutting permit application support.
  • Prepare road reactivation, maintenance, and deactivation plans.
  • Support timber sort and block margin forecasting.
  • Maintain relationships with local government and the general public through trust, respect, and strong communication skills.
  • Requires a degree or diploma in forestry from a recognized post-secondary institution and be a registered member in good standing with the ABCFP.
  • Requires an enjoyment for coastal field work and the experience necessary to be proficient in complex road and block engineering.
  • Requires an understanding of forestry legislation and associated guidance.
  • Computer skills required include the use of Road Eng, Microsoft Office, and GPS software.  Experience with Cenfor and Forest Ops software is considered an asset.
